By now, I'm sure you're not surprised to hear that New Year's resolutions aren't exactly high on my to-do list.
I'm a single, working mom balancing a career and home life, while trying to carve out enough "me" time for the self-care I deserve *and* spend quality time with my young daughter.
I don't believe in making resolutions because, frankly, why the f*ck would I let the calendar tell me when to make a positive change? Why would any of us let one day out of the year dictate how we live our lives when there are 364 other days available for us to make of?
I brought up my lifestyle not because it makes me any different than anyone else (we ALL have our own demanding schedules), but because it's a big part of the reason I don't believe in resolutions.
We have a limited number of days, hours, and minutes in this world.
Why waste it trying to conform to the diets that are pushed on us during resolution season? Why spend it tallying all the ways society says we're not good enough if we don't have a goal for productivity, income, weight loss, or exercise at the start of a new year?
Maybe I don't need the world to tell me it's that time of the year to set the bar unrealistically high for myself only to fall short.
And maybe — JUST MAYBE!! — I'm amazing just the way I am on January 1st.
Maybe we all are.
